The mirror is the test Love Yourself Mirror Challenge

The mirror is the test.

What happens inside is where it gets interesting.

A mirror gives us a beautifully simple way to notice what happens when your attention turns towards you.

Can you receive something kind?
Does your body soften?
Do you immediately dismiss it?
Does something tighten?
Do you feel awkward, embarrassed, uncomfortable, maybe even a bit icky?
Or do you get that lovely little glowy, fizzy feeling?

There is no right response.

A mirror is where we'll begin.
Your relationship with yourself is where we're going.

Over four days, we'll explore what happens when you:

  • Look yourself in the eye and notice what actually happens inside.
  • Offer yourself something genuinely kind, and notice whether you can receive it.
  • Recognise the icky, awkward, embarrassed or “get me out of here” feeling if it appears, without forcing it away or pretending to feel differently.
  • Notice when a compliment simply won't land, and become curious about what your body does instead.
  • Work gently with resistance rather than trying to plaster positive thinking over the top of it.
  • Notice the tiny moments of warmth, softness, expansion, glow or fizz when something does feel good.
  • Practise staying with those good sensations for a little longer instead of immediately dismissing them.
  • Begin taking that different experience of yourself away from the mirror and into everyday life.

Try it for a moment.
Not checking your hair.
Not checking your clothes.
Not scanning your face or body for something you'd like to change.
Actually look yourself in the eyes.
And say one genuinely nice thing to yourself.

Then notice what happens.

Maybe you smile.
Maybe something softens.
Maybe you feel warm, glowy or a little bit fizzy.

Or maybe you look away.
Laugh.
Feel embarrassed.
Immediately qualify the compliment with “Yeah, but…”
Maybe the words don't land at all.
Maybe the whole thing just feels a bit icky and every part of you wants to get out of there.

That's where it gets interesting.

Because this challenge isn't really about the mirror.
The mirror simply gives us somewhere to begin.

And if you can already look yourself in the eye and say something lovely?

Brilliant.

That doesn't mean there's nothing here for you.

We'll use what's already there and see what happens when you let it go a little deeper, and stay with it a little longer.

Because the compliment isn't necessarily the most interesting part.
The interesting part might be what happens after you say it.

A tiny smile.
A deeper breath.
Your shoulders dropping.
Warmth in your chest.
That little fizzy feeling.

That moment of:
“Actually… yeah.”

And instead of immediately moving on, we'll give your body a little more time to experience it.

This feels good.
I can receive this.
I can stay here a little longer.

This isn't four days of forced affirmations.

I'm not interested in having you stand in front of a mirror declaring:
“I am amazing. I am beautiful. I love everything about myself.”

…while another part of you is quietly thinking:
“Oh, do shut up.”

Your body knows when something doesn't feel true.

We're not trying to manufacture a new you or convince you to believe something you don't.

We're getting curious about what it's actually like to be you, right now.
And using some very simple nervous system tools to start shifting that from the inside.

The mirror gives us the information.
What we do with it is where things begin to change.

Four days.
A few minutes each day.
No forced positivity.
No need to arrive already loving yourself.

Just bring a mirror, yourself and a little curiosity.
