What is the nervous system and why does it matter for health?
The nervous system is the body's control centre, constantly regulating how we respond to stress, danger, and safety. When it is functioning well we feel calm, clear, and resilient. When it becomes dysregulated through stress, trauma, or overwhelm, it affects sleep, mood, energy, digestion, and emotional balance.
What is nervous system dysregulation?
Nervous system dysregulation happens when the body becomes stuck in survival responses such as fight, flight, or freeze and cannot easily return to a balanced calm state. It often shows up as chronic anxiety, exhaustion, emotional reactivity, sleep problems, and physical tension.
Can the nervous system heal and rebalance?
Yes. The nervous system is highly adaptable. Through consistent regulation practices, body-based approaches, breathwork, and the right support, most people can gradually restore balance even after long periods of stress or trauma.
What is the difference between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system?
The sympathetic nervous system activates the body for action, commonly known as fight or flight. The parasympathetic nervous system supports rest, recovery, and restoration. Good nervous system health means moving fluidly between these two states rather than getting stuck in one.
How do I know if I need nervous system support?
Common signs include persistent anxiety, difficulty relaxing, poor sleep, chronic fatigue, digestive issues, emotional overwhelm, and physical tension that does not resolve with rest. If several of these feel familiar, nervous system regulation work may be a helpful next step.
